۱۶۰ سال از تاسيس AP می گذرد.
طبق اسناد بدست آمده از قرن ۱۹ ميلادی The Associated Press دو سال زودتر از آنچه تاکنون تصور
می شده تاسيس شده است. AP قديمی ترين و بزرگترين خبرگزاری دنيا در جريان جنگ آمريکا و مکزيک در نيويورک و در سال ۱۸۴۶ تاسيس شده و شروع به فعاليت کرده است. با اين حساب برخلاف تصور قبلی اکنون ۱۶۰ سال از تاسيس اين خبرگزاری می گذرد.
تام کرولی مدير AP در همين ارتباط می گويد: مدارک بدست آمده نه تنها برای ثبت AP در تاريخ بلکه نشان دهنده کار بنيادی اين خبرگزاری در پوشش خبرهای صلح و جنگ
می باشد که توسط روزنامه هايی که AP را تاسيس کرده اند می باشد.
The Associated Press came into existence in 1846, two years earlier than previously thought, according to a newly acquired collection of 19th century documents. The AP Corporate Archives now has possession of papers from the descendant of a founder that show the world's oldest and largest newsgathering organization was born in New York during the U.S. war with Mexico. The historical finding makes AP 160 years old this year instead of 158. Tom Curley says: "These documents are a significant discovery not only for the historical record of the Associated Press but because they also reaffirm the AP's fundamental role, covering the news in war and peace, as envisioned by the member newspapers that created it
